PERIOD MYSTERY · ADVENTURE · 1893, BRITISH INDIA
IN THE TRADITION OF A KNIGHT’S TALE AND SHERLOCK HOLMES
Synopsis: Two years after Holmes’ death at Reichenbach, Watson, desperate for relevance as his book tour in India falters, is summoned by the Lieutenant Governor of Calcutta to investigate the wholesale murder of all the inhabitants of a local village, found hanging from a large peepul tree. Out of options, he turns to a secret he kept for twenty‑five years: Sher Basu, Holmes’ daughter, kept from the civilized world by a grandfather ashamed of her birth, her only companions the books lining her jail‑like room floor to ceiling. Watson rescues her, gambling that some of her father’s intellect survived the isolation — and gets far more than he bargained for: a mind sharper than her father’s, an instinct for danger Holmes never had, and an impetuous streak that has her moving before anyone — Watson included — can weigh in. With Lieutenant Noor along to escort them through Rampur’s hill country, Watson and Sher together uncover a nationalist uprising staged as cover for the trial of a new weapon to maintain colonial rule — a conspiracy that could unravel the hugely unpopular Raj itself.
